Memphis, the new rock musical by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan, is coming to Broadway. Previews begin September 23 at the Shubert Theater before the official opening October 19.

According to the press notes:

In the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50’s, a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun fell in love with everything he shouldn’t: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer. Memphis is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever.

I know all of you Actors Theatre readers remember J. Bernard Calloway. He had been working on this show for a while. I wonder if he’s still involved with the production. You did hear that he’s in The Taking Of Pelham 123, didn’t you? I gotta get out and see that movie.

Tickets for Memphis are on sale now. For more info, visit www.memphisthemusical.com.
